MRS. SPRADLIN

Growing up, Torrey received countless gifts from her parents.  Among her greatest of blessings were routine Bible study; travel within this country and to others; years of piano lessons and a love for learning.  In 1994, she married a soldier and left her childhood home of Kansas City, Missouri for the home wherever the Army would send them.  From one duty station to the next, she built an understanding of how to work with individuals within a diverse community.  She studied toward a degree while working with a wide range of ages as both a private subject tutor and a piano teacher.  Torrey graduated from Methodist College in North Carolina with a major in Mathematics and a minor in English in 1998.  Opportunities brought classroom experience: substitute teaching at Department of Defense schools in Alabama; teaching remedial math to boost test scores at a North Carolina public school; and instructing math and art in a private school in Hawaii.  In 2007, Torrey found a new focus in homeschooling her two children who, now, love supplementing their education with Brighton Academy.  In 2014, Torrey found employment at Meyer Music as a private piano teacher; in 2016, she gained piano students from a local day school.  Since 2017, Torrey has enjoyed tutoring Brighton students in math and organization as well as teaching a test preparatory course for college bound students.  Torrey enjoys exploring and adjusting teaching methods to accommodate learning styles unique to each student.  And she especially values the reward of working with the challenged student.  Torrey looks forward to assisting students toward positive results by blending an adherence to required techniques and expected standards with a respectful patience and enhancement of student creativity.
